Your pet’s oral health is very important to us! Did you know that by one year of age, 50% of cats and 30% of dogs will have calculus building and the early stages of gingivitis. This is the right age to start having professional dental prophylaxis done. By age three, 85% of pets have some dental pathology present (changes that may be causing pain, or even problems internally in your pet). Just like with us, dental disease is completely preventable! Waiting for disease to fester will only place your pet at risk and cost you money in the long run.
Why does my pet need a professional dental cleaning?
- An animal’s mouth is like a human hand. They use it to pick up food, toys and experience the environment. Dental disease can cause pain and we want to relieve that.
- Dental disease causes bad breath or halitosis. Halitosis is caused by bacteria lying below the gum line. A professional dental cleaning will allow us to work below the gum line and remove this bacteria-laden tartar. Teeth cleaning at your groomer is only equivalent to brushing the teeth. It is not a dental scale and cleaning like we get at the dentist.
- As dental disease progresses this can cause gum recession and bone loss in your pets jaw. We observe this unfortunate consequence in pets every day. This is painful and will lead to tooth loss.
- Studies have show that routine dental care can extend the life of your pet up to two years. This is because an unhealthy mouth places the heart, kidneys and liver at risk of early onset disease. There is no better investment in your pet than potentially extending their life! They will thank you with clean kisses.
